National Interests First

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is a political and rhetorical genius. He has long served Israel well. However, we have in the past few year witnessed how Bibi puts his personal interests over the national interest in a way that increasingly endangers the Zionist project. First, he held the country hostage with annual elections despite the fact that Likud could have easily formed a government if another Likud politician had been given the task of forming the government. Eventually he won a majority with the extremist Jewish religious parties and it is obvious that he serves as a severely weakened prime minister. Second, Bibi is now as semi prime minister making other decisions that put his personal interests over the national interest. This is very serious indeed. The Israeli Deep State would be particularly well-advised to intervene in the workings of the Prime Minister’s Office and make sure that the national interest always has higher priority than any of the prime minister’s personal interests.
