The Path to Palestinian Statehood

Under the current circumstances a so-called two-state solution is not possible. Delineating the path towards Palestinian statehood is however possible already at present.

It is not true that a Palestinian state is the only solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. An Israeli-Jordanian solution is in principle possible and Jordan wants it although it will not publicly acknowledge so. Israel in contrast does not want an Israeli-Jordanian solution, regarding it as more dangerous than an Israeli-Palestinian solution. The fact is that an Israeli-Palestinian settlement is much less feasible now than it was prior to the Oslo Accords.

Why is this so? Because the Anti-Jewish ideology of Anti-Zionism has been entrenched within the Palestinian public during Palestinian Authority rule. Officially the PA supports a Palestinian state alongside Israel but this is certainly not the whole story.

First, the PA opposes Israel being a Jewish state; second, the PA claims that the claim of return cannot be given up because it ostensibly is part of international law; third, the Palestinian Authority is vehemently Anti-Zionist and refuses to condemn the ideology of Anti-Zionism as the most common contemporary form of Jew-hatred and fourth, the PA opposes territorial compromise in Judea and Samaria with Israel keeping the restored indigenous Israeli communities of the area.

Thus is in order to get an Arab state alongside the Jewish state, the PA needs to change substantially:

A. Genuinely recognize Jewish statehood.

B. Thoroughly reform the Palestinian Authority.

C. Give up the claim of return, including within the UN and international law.

D. Thoroughly de-radicalize Palestinian society.

E. Accept that indigenous Israeli communities in Judea and Samaria will be part of Israel.

F. Delegitimize Anti-Zionism in Palestinian society and worldwide as a form of Jew-hatred.

G. Accept that the Palestinians have been defeated by Israel and not vice versa.

H. Accept that Jerusalem will not be divided.

I. Accept that Jewish rights and Muslim rights on the Temple Mount are compatible, including building a large synagogue and carrying out archeological excavations on the entire Temple Mount while safeguarding the historical Islamic buildings there.

J. Building the Third Temple on pillars, standing above the Dome of the Rock and without animal sacrifice.

K. Teach Jewish history in Palestinian schools.

L. Accept Zionism as an inherent part of the region and the world.

M. The PA must accept that they will not be positioned to dictate a solution.

Until the PA accepts these requirements they will not get a state. The sooner the PA accepts those requirements, the faster will they get a state. Israel’s patience is unlimited and the sooner the PA realizes that they will not destroy Israel the sooner will there be peace in the region.
