Open Letter to Reza Pahlavi

I am writing to you as someone enormously sympathetic to your cause. However, I will be blunt about where you fail. I agree with you that removing the monstrous mullah regime is a moral imperative. However, it appears to me that you are a little naive about the prospects for liberal democracy in Iran and politics generally. Liberal democracy is a never-ending process, not an ontology. Unless you can work with the minority nationalist political parties now, when will you? What is needed now is to form a multipartisan, multiethnic government in exile and come up with a coherent vision for the country that is acceptable to a wider electorate than your conservative fan club. It is completely insufficient to only seek the support of ethnic Persians, you need to gain the support of the non-Persian minorities as well. The way to gain minority support is for you to come out publicly in support of federalism with linguistic states as federal subjects. This will go a long way towards you gaining the support of your non-Persian compatriots. The time to do this is long overdue.
