When humans left neolithic society for agricultural society most old problem were resolved, yet new problems appeared. When humans left agricultural society for industrial society most old problems were resolved, yet new problems appeared. When humans leave industrial society for ASI (artificial super intelligence) society most old problems will be resolved, yet new problems will appear.
How will ASI society look like? The emergence of some ASI-generated technologies can be predicted a) because we can already imagine them, b) they are consist with the laws of physics and c) they can be expected to become widely used. An example is artificial uteri which fill all three boxes. Not many cis women and trans men will want to undergo natural pregnancy when a machine can do the job. Some technologies such as railways can be expected to survive the transition in enhanced form. The unknown lies in technologies that ASI will invent that we cannot yet anticipate as well as in the discovery by ASI of vastly more numbers of laws of physics.
Some consequences may be anticipated already now while other consequences belong to the unknown because of what we currently do not know. The most studied is the economic transition. When virtually all aspects of the economy (production of goods, transportation, production of services and the public sector) becomes automatized by ASI there is no question that almost all jobs will disappear replaced by ASI and robots, including social humanoid robots. Initially a money economy may be maintained through Universal High Income (UHI) but even UHI will be superseded by an abundance ASI economy where everything is available for free. It has been argued that AI has not yet replaced professions on a large scale and so is it questioned whether ASI will do so either. However, current AI mostly helps workers to become more productive because it is not yet advanced enough to replace them.
Crime will almost entirely disappear in ASI society. Economically motivated crime such as theft and fraud will disappear as money and property will lose all value. Embryos will be modified to prevent pathologies from emerging and this will remove all personality disorders including the Dark Triad, particularly Anti-Social Personality Disorder (ASPD) commonly known as ”psychopathy” as well as pathological aspects of ADHD. Most convicted criminals have either ASPD or ADHD or both. Similarly will the permanent curing of psychosis prevent many criminal acts. Drug abuse (including alcohol and tobacco addiction) will disappear with the emergence of new ASI-generated technologies that will stimulate the brain without causing addiction. ASI will effectively solve societal problems rather than engaging in persecution, oppression and dictatorship. Persons with harmful sexual inclinations will be encouraged and educated to enact their fantasies as consensually agreed BDSM scenes as well as with highly realistic sex robots of different kinds that are virtually indistinguishable to different animals and humans of all ages. ASI will generate fictional pornography on demand for all tastes and inclinations The animal industry with its gargantuan and largely tolerated abuses despite often being technically illegal will completely disappear as animal foods are produced in huge bio-reactors. The ASI economy must be based on 100% recycling of materials in order to be sustainable. Mining in asteroid belts will eventually replace mining on Earth.
As money and subsequently property lose all value, land will need to distributed in an economical manner which preserves nature and offers housing for all. It is possible that humans will live in intentional communities for various social preferences e.g. LGBT cities and BDSM cities. Those who fulfill admission criteria will be allocated land for automated construction or else be given access to existing available housing. Building a new house will be completely free as everything will be automatized by robots and ASI.
While human crime will mostly disappear, the new problem will be how to prevent ASI from committing crimes and abiding by the law. Existing paragraphic law is insufficient as it requires interpreting law and ASI cannot be entrusted with interpreting law or there may be severe dystopian consequences. What is needed is something new, namely axiomatic law. A legal axiom captures in poetic language a brief philosophical insight. Together would thousands of legal axioms provide effective rules for ASI without interpretation and would also constitute new international law. Courts would largely disappear as money, property and crime become extinct. Remaining courts would be ASI courts which would defer to the legislature in cases of undecidability.
The UN needs to be replaced with United Democracies (UD) and all countries will join for the sake of ASI security and the reality is that dictatorship will disappear when repression becomes antiquated and replaced by ASI much more effectively solving societal problems. Dictators will become redundant like most other professions and replaced by ASI.
United Democracies needs a universal legislature with three chambers. The first chamber will consist of elected, trained philosophers from all philosophical schools all over the world who will articulate wisdom in the form of axioms from philosophy, religion and traditional knowledge. The second chamber will consist of elected poets from all over the world will give the axioms poetic form. The third chamber will consist of elected jurists, including from traditions of religious jurisprudence who will determine whether a proposed axiom is technically compatible with the existing body of legal axioms.
The two constitutional meta-axioms should be ”Personhood is the purpose” and ”Open society is the method” and all other legal axioms would be subordinate to the two meta-axioms. A person should be defined in axiomatic law as someone who is either conscious, sentient or both irrespective of taxonomic or technological classification.
UD should legislate that all states become linguistic states with international borders following linguistic boundaries between languages with one state for each language, defined by its literary tradition. New literary languages may create new linguistic states such as Cantonese and Lebanese. Linguistic borders may be modified through local referenda involving the consent of the country receiving the territory in question. Linguistic borders should be based also on heritage languages such as Irish and Egyptian which should become revived and enjoy the status of official language and the medium of education.
While UD would legislate international law for ASI, national legislatures would be primarily concerned with legislating axiomatic law for other technologies. E.g. might a national legislature prohibit introduction of new technologies that harm nature.
Rejuvenation technologies and longevity technologies are expected to be generated by ASI in making no one biologically older than 28. Automatized plastic surgery will like all services be freely available, obesity will be cured and large muscles won’t require extensive training in a gym.
Salutogenic optimization will become the operating principle behind genetic engineering and every embryo will undergo salutogenic optimization, meaning that its future cognition, emotions, health, traits and beauty will be salutogenically optimized. Parents should be enabled to choose aesthetic features of their future children, including e.g. mixing blond hair with brown skin. Existing people will receive voluntary packages of yearly genetic upgrades to ensure further salutogenic optimization. Pathology will be defined as any condition that causes unnecessary suffering in oneself or others.
UD law will require universal emancipation including for animals. Domesticated animals should be citizens of states while wild species should be afforded their own overlapping sovereignties in nature with legal force under axiomatic law. Parasites and predators should be genetically modified by ASI so that they end behaviors of parasitism and predation and would be daily fed by ASI. Medical experimentation with animals would end completely as it would be replaced by ASI-created full body models mapping even the smallest aspect of the person’s body. The result would be personalized medicine.
Social matching by ASI will become especially popular. ASI will be able to measure aesthetic sexual preferences for e.g. facial traits and bodily traits and will be able to match people by sexual fantasies which they wish to realize. As ASI knows virtually everything about everyone will it be able to find the perfect matches for anyone at anytime, including one or more life partners, a temporary sexual encounter, a sexual orgy, a potential best friend, a study partner or any other legally permitted purpose.
Philosophy understands the world through categories and for this reason need philosophical training become central to citizen’s education in ASI society or else citizens will become civically illiterate in a society under permanent technological transformation.
