Understanding the ”Ongoing Nakba”

Palestinians ahistorically refer to Israel’s 1947-49 War of Independence as ”the Nakba”. The historical fact is that tens of millions of people were permanently displaced around the world in the 1945-50 period (especially in South Asia and Eastern Europe) of whom less than a million were displaced Palestinian Arabs and less than a million Jews displaced from Arab countries. Even the term ”Nakba” was plagiarized from Shoah, the Israeli term for the Holocaust as Nakba and Shoah literally mean ”catastrophe” in Arabic and Hebrew respectively. In recent years it has become popular among Palestinians to claim that they are experiencing an ”ongoing Nakba”.

1880-1946: Terrorism against Jewish civilians was established as the main Palestinian tactic from the beginning of Jewish return to the land and remains so till this day. The Palestinians used Arab oil diplomacy to persuade the British to almost end Jewish immigration to the British Mandate in the Land of Israel in 1939 and thus doomed the Jews in Europe who no longer had anywhere to escape.

1947-49: The Palestinian leadership commenced an official war of extermination and the Jews had literally no choice (what else could they conceivably do?) but to encourage the exodus of most of those Arab villages who sided with the official war of extermination. If they at any point were all allowed to immigrate to Israel, then the official war of extermination would no doubt resume, even today.

1950-70: No serious efforts were made to create a Palestinian state in Gaza and Judea & Samaria. It was official PLO policy that Judea & Samaria was Jordanian and would not be part of the Palestinian state which would be set up in Gaza and on the ruins of Israel.

1971-82: The PLO created a terrorist quasi-state in southern Lebanon terrorizing Israelis and local Lebanese alike. Israel starts building indigenous communities in strategic locations in Judea & Samaria.

1983-present: The illusion strategy takes form with the PLO in 1988 from Algiers declaring a virtual ”independent” state in Gaza and Judea & Samaria which were then under full Israeli control. With both sides in 1993 mutually deceiving the other about ”peace”, a semi-permanent Palestinian autonomy was established in 40% of Judea & Samaria. Israeli PMs Barak and Olmert made insincere peace offers as they knew that the rejectionist PLO would turn down any final status peace offer, at the same time as Israel continued building throughout Judea & Samaria. The present main propaganda illusion is that of claiming that Jews are a racial group (a notion derived from Nazi Anti-Semitism) who practice Apartheid (a notion derived from Soviet Anti-Semitism).

Future: Jerusalem will apply Israeli sovereignty to about 40-50% of Judea & Samaria once there is a sufficiently friendly Republican occupant in the Oval Office ready to extend American recognition. Once at least 10 million Median Jews have immigrated to Israel can Israel apply sovereignty to the rest of Judea & Samaria as well. The Jordanian monarchy will be overjoyed to subsequently annex Gaza which will become connected with the East Bank through an underground road and railroad connection under the Israeli Negev desert and turn Gaza into the Jordanian Riviera.

Imagine that the PA would end the dead-end illusion strategy and instead were to educate their people for peace and subsequently negotiate the best compromise they could get from Netanyahu? Why is this so difficult to imagine? Because the ”ongoing Nakba” takes place as a direct result of severely mistaken rejectionist Palestinian policies. This was always the case and is still the case.
