The Tihamah Red Sea coastal plain region in Yemen is populated by Sunnis, yet occupied by the Houthi rebels. However, the Houthi Red Sea piracy has become completely intolerable for international shipping and a threat to vital US interests. A US-led international coalition needs to be formed to liberate the Yemeni Tihamah and subsequently hand over the region to the Yemeni government. There is no alternative to using ground forces. Furthermore, the Houthi-controlled region will become landlocked and Iran will therefore find it difficult, even impossible, to deliver weapons to the Houthis. The Houthis will find it difficult to survive politically and militarily once they are landlocked. Iran is challenging American hegemony and Pax Americana and the US needs to respond resolutely with great and precise force.
