A UNSC Resolution Won’t be Helpful

The Israeli public elected a rightwing government to increase construction in Judea and Samaria and recognize unauthorized indigenous Israeli communities in Judea and Samaria. This is the democratic will of the people in order to secure the future of the people of Israel. If that does not happen Israel would effectively be reduced to Puerto Rico and the national religious parties will no doubt bring down the government. The Biden administration states that it cares about Israeli democracy and it is certainly right to call for a consensual solution on judicial reform in Israel. However, the Biden administration must internalize that a UNSC resolution on Judea and Samaria will not be helpful but will rather be counterproductive from the perspective of the Biden administration because Jerusalem will henceforth listen much less to Washington on Judea and Samaria once such a resolution has been passed in the United Nations Security Council. The results on the ground will be precisely the opposite of what the misguided Arabists in the State Department intend. There is no doubt that President Biden cares deeply about Israeli liberal democracy and so should therefore be particularly well-advised to not let misguided Arabists subvert it.
