The attempts to manage the climate crisis through planned economy are doomed to failure. The massive resources that are thrown away at subsidies would be better spent at accelerating the development of sustainable technologies. One example: Western politicians wish to accelerate the introduction of electric cars by subsidizing them to consumers. It would be far better to accelerate the development of these technologies by putting vast public funds into research and development on batteries of electric cars. This would hasten the tipping point where electric cars become affordable to all. Another example: The animal industry contributes as much to global warming as the transportation sector but there has been no efforts by Western politicians to affect any change in that sector. The logical thing would be to pour billions into research and development in cellular agriculture, something which would eliminate all emissions of greenhouse gases from the animal industry. Another example: There are vast empty deserts around the world, small parts of which could be filled with huge fields of solar panels which could easily fill the entire world’s energy needs. It is just a matter of political will.
