Doha can’t have its Cake and Eat it Too

Qatar has long played a double game of supporting and funding Sunni Islamism such as the global Muslim Brotherhood and a wide range of Sunni Jihadist terrorist organizations around the world while maintaining excellent connections with every state in the world, including Israel, the US and Iran. The apparently successful Israeli elimination of Hamas leaders in Doha shows that Qatar cannot any longer have its cake and eat it too. A few points are noteworthy: 1) The Israeli operation strongly promoted American interests as the message to the Emir is that Qatar will not be able to continue to support Islamism, Jihadism and terrorism. 2) Any Muslim state interested in concluding peace with Israel will have to do it on Israel and America’s terms. 3) There is a new sheriff in town as Israel is the new Hegemon in the Muslim world and is as such representing and promoting American interests in the Middle East and beyond. 4) Qatar would do well to cease its Anti-Israel propaganda activities worldwide or else face unspecified, yet Severe and Nasty consequences in the years to come. 5) Qatar regards itself as indispensable while not internalizing that Israel is everyone’s indispensable ally in Islamdom. 6) Israel has long historical memory and remembers those who helped the Jews in difficult times; designating one’s own country as an enemy of Israel is not exactly advisable. Qatar could chose to align itself with Israel and ditch their current allies in Jihadist-Islamist axis of Evil.
