The US Should Rescind its Plans to Reopen the US Consulate in Jerusalem

The Israeli government has clearly made it known that it is opposed to the reopening of the US consulate in Jerusalem which according to US law is the capital of Israel and the capital of Israel alone. Yet, Secretary Blinken has announced plans to reopen the consulate contrary to the will of the host nation, which is perplexing. Yet, a State Department official has recently testified to Congress that the consulate cannot be reopened without Israel’s assent. So why is the US insisting on reopening the consulate despite Israel having said no? There is no ready explanation, it all seems very confusing. The US government should cease undermining the Israeli coalition government and rescind its plans to reopen the US consulate in Jerusalem.
