Since the collapse of the Oslo process in the year 2000 has the Palestinian Authority (PA) practiced a strategy of biding for time while rejecting all proposals for ending the conflict, which Palestinians describe as “the conspiracy to liquidate the Palestinian issue”. The calculus is that time is on the side of the Palestinians. The Anti-Semitic Apartheid libel as a product of Soviet propaganda has been in play since the 1960s. However, with the founding the of BDS “movement” in 2005 has the Apartheid libel been given an increasingly prominent place in PA discursive strategies. The PA strategy is to oppose any end-of-claims final status agreement while accusing Israel of Apartheid. The BDS movement is ineffective everywhere other than on campus but it is really propelled by the Apartheid libel and the BDS movement in turn is very successful in mainstreaming the Apartheid libel within the radical left. The name BDS is really a misnomer since it should more accurately be called “the Apartheid libel movement”. However, the Apartheid libel has not been successful in persuading governments for the simple reason of course that it is a Big Lie and there are limits to the effectiveness of lying.
What will be the consequences of the immigration of tens of millions of Median Jews to Israel, and Israel redeeming and enfranchising the entire Judea and Samaria with the Jordanian monarchy subsequently being very happy to annex Gaza? There will be tremendous improvements in every aspect of life for the Palestinians but PLO discursive strategies will not change. They will continue to claim that Israel practices Apartheid even after Israel enfranchises the Palestinians of Judea and Samaria. It won’t matter how much Israel does to invest in infrastructure in Arab areas and to promote equality and integration into Israeli society, the post-PA PLO will continue to push the Apartheid libel no matter what.
