Israeli Civil Society Should not Rely on Foreign Governments

It is very unhealthy that foreign governments on a massive scale fund Israeli NGO’s which lack popular basis in Israeli society. It is legitimate to raise funds from private organizations and individuals at home and abroad but to mostly rely on foreign governments means corrupting the very notion of ”non-governmental organization”. Are those organizations actually GOs, governmental organizations? And if they are, should they not be legally required to register as foreign agents? It is difficult to understand why European leaders who are generally sympathetic towards the Zionist enterprise at the same time fund Anti-Zionist (Palestinian and Israeli) organizations which typically qualify as Anti-Semitic according to the IHRA definition and its 11 examples. The new Kallner Knesset bill to levy a 65% income tax on organizations that receive funds from foreign governments is much welcome and I hope it passes considering how thoroughly abused the current system has become.
