Let’s be clear, I have no ideological problem with a Palestinian state next to Israel. However, creating a Palestinian state either through consent or coercion just is not possible and it is not desirable for either side for reasons that I will elaborate below. Israel experimented with creating a Palestinian state in Gaza and we now know just how successful that was. Hence, a Palestinian state could only be created through unilateral Israeli withdrawal from parts of Judea and Samaria after Jerusalem applies sovereignty to about 50% of that territory. Such withdrawal would be very unwise (no less than the Gaza withdrawal two decades ago) and will therefore of course never happen. However, it is also necessary to discuss the consequences were the panacea of ”two-state solution” for some reason to be realized in some form or the other.
The same things that happened in Gaza would happen in Judea and Samaria although at a more accelerated speed. After all, what reasonable person would like to see tens of thousands of Palestinians killed in Judea and Samaria just as they currently are in Gaza? What person in their right mind would like to see a Second Nakba as Israel depopulates Western Judea & Samaria from Palestinians? What judicious person would want rocket and missile fire against Israeli cities from a Palestinian state?
I have two issues with Palestinian statehood. First, it is not possible but is a meaningless rhetorical exercise, although sometimes as in this case serving ulterior purposes actually unrelated to the Palestinians. Second, it will not lead to peace and coexistence, on the contrary so, consequences would be calamitous, especially for the Palestinians but also for the Israelis. People who sincerely advocate for some kind of two-state solution are simply luftmenschen.
Yes it is true that Palestinian statehood could become possible if Palestinian society were to be comprehensively and successfully denazified, not only in Gaza, but in Judea and Samaria as well. So good luck with that.
But really, who needs Palestinian statehood? Once four million Median Jews from Iran and Iraq and six million from Turkey have immigrated to Israel, Jerusalem could apply sovereignty to the entire Judea and Samaria and Gaza could conversely be annexed by a PYD-run Syria. This is a much better solution for both Palestinians and Israelis.
