Israel Applying Sovereignty will Bring Lasting Peace

According to a poll in recent months, 50% of the population of the strip wish to leave Gaza and emigrate to another country. It is highly likely that the humanitarian crisis means that most of the other half of the population wish to emigrate as well to avoid further suffering. Champion of peace, US president Donald J. Trump suggested turning the strip into a riviera and members of the Israeli government advocate applying Israeli sovereignty to the area. This is an important step for peace which will facilitate the resolution of the demographic issue in Judea and Samaria as well. There is no reason why Palestinians in Judea and Samaria should not be offered the opportunity to emigrate as well once the Gaza problem is resolved. It is an important US interest to bring peace to conflicts around the world and the US president is right to focus on realistic solutions rather than unrealistic ones such as the so-called ”two-state solution” which is destined for tragic failure and forever wars.

First, the most pressing issue is to end humanitarian suffering through emigration from Gaza to other countries. This too is an American interest although the riviera plan would turn America into a party of globalized conflict. The US interest is to support Israel in promoting joint American-Israeli interests, not to become a target of international pressure to turn over the strip to Jihadists. Second, Israel should apply sovereignty to all or most of Gaza and to all Jewish areas of Judea and Samaria. Third, both America and Israel will benefit from the freezing of the conflict in Judea and Samaria pending a permanent solution whether that involves a Jordanian-Palestinian federation or Israel applying sovereignty to remaining areas of Judea and Samaria once Israeli demographics permits so.
