Washington and Jerusalem need a Joint Iran Strategy

Israel and America’s 12-day war against the Mullah regime was very successful yet will have to be repeated two years from now against Iran’s rebuilt nuclear weapons program. President Donald J. Trump needs to carefully reconsider his opposition to helping unseat the totalitarian clerical tyranny.

What would happen in Iran if there were a successful revolution without a carefully a priori agreed endgame? Persians make up approximately 60% of the population in Iran with many other ethnicities speaking their own languages making up the rest with Azeris being the largest minority and Kurds the second largest minority. There would most likely be a civil war between Persians and the minorities.

A framework needs to be drawn up that satisfies both majority and minorities. For the minorities a confederation of language-based states would be the optimal outcome because states would be allowed to legally secede. The Persian majority of course wishes to continue to linguistically oppress the minorities and assimilate them into becoming ethnic Persians while forgetting their own native languages. A federation of language-based states would be an appropriate compromise with every language of Iran becoming an official language of the union. As this would prevent a civil war and give rise to regional stability, this would strongly be in the interest of the United States.

Why has every attempt at revolution against the clerical regime been quashed by the Mullahs? Every attempt at revolution in recent decades has typically involved youth only with all other generations else staying at home. A successful revolution thus requires multi-generational participation.

How would a successful revolution look like? This would crucially be a joint venture between American and Israeli intelligence and would seek to involve every ethnic, social, religious and cultural group in the country. Resentment against the regime is as diverse as Iran itself and therefore diverse participation is essential.
