The Israeli peace movement is known for its understanding of Palestinian perspectives and selective espousal of Palestinian advocacy in the perceived interest of the Jewish state. A Palestinian peace movement would similarly be known for its understanding of Israeli perspectives and selective espousal of Israeli advocacy in the interest of a future Palestinian state. No such Palestinian movement currently exists. Good intentions are not enough though and the European-funded Israeli peace movement is clearly well-intended despite not understanding the nature of the conflict as well-elucidated by leftwing intellectual Dr. Einat Wilf, Israel’s sharpest thinker. However, a Palestinian peace movement is badly needed. The goal of such a movement should be a Palestinian state that unites most Palestinians (including Israeli Palestinians) with space to settle in new major skyscraper cities for descendants of refugees and divides the entire land between the two peoples. There are well-intended Palestinians who understand that while the regime line may be popular at the UN it is ultimately a dead end which will not in any way help the Palestinian people. However, the only ones positioned to assist such a movement come about and grow are the Europeans because they fund the Palestinian Authority and so if the Europeans wanted to fund a Palestinian peace movement based on partition of the entire land between the two peoples Jews and Palestinians, then they would be perfectly positioned to do so and Mahmoud Abbas the dictator would not dare to prevent them.
Europeans are increasingly desperate and hysterical about the Palestinian situation (as if it were somehow the main source of suffering in the world), the problem being that the solutions that Europeans have so far espoused would predictably only aggravate Palestinian suffering because they would deepen and intensify the conflict rather than solving it. The Oslo Process was a grave mistake and significantly aggravated the situation of ordinary Palestinians. The Israeli disengagement from Gaza was a severe mistake and disastrously aggravated the Palestinian situation. An unreformed, non-deradicalized, terror-supporting, rocket-launching, unconditional Palestinian state would be the worst mistake of all, would lead to war and suffering in proportions that would make the Gaza war pale in comparison (it would inevitably lead to a huge Palestinian exodus to Jordan) and it would all be caused in the name of the peculiar European mixture of good intentions and subconscious, systemic, structural and consistently denied anti-Jewish racism typically expressed as severe discrimination within discourses. The bigger point here is that Europeans have a chance to actually be helpful by funding deradicalization in Palestinian society, including helping to give life to a powerful Palestinian peace movement. Alas, bashing the Jewish state has never helped ordinary Palestinians but has merely served to fuel domestic anti-Jewish animus.
