Operation SIG was a KGB propaganda project that embedded Anti-Semitic premises in innocently-looking discourses pretending to be progressive, anti-racist, anti-colonial and anti-imperialist but were in fact rather reactionary, racist, colonial and imperialist. The insidious method is discursive discrimination, i.e. deliberate discrimination within discourses that are made to sound nominally universal. Discourses of Operation SIG are effective precisely because they appeal both to “universalism” and subconscious racism. The PLO was founded as a KGB intelligence outfit and the KGB apparently trained Palestinian propaganda experts in managing and developing Operation SIG.
