There were once two Ba’athist regimes, however only one is left. It is controlled by ethnic Alawites – who are Median Jews – but who are generally secular and far removed from their Alawite roots. The regime permits only two types of religious education in state schools, Sunni Muslim and Christian. Median Jews (Alawites, Alevis, Druze and Yezidis) are all officially considered “Muslims” and their children are therefore forced to endure Sunni Muslim religious education at school.
The dictator of Syria, Bashar al-Assad (b. 1965), is an assimilated Alawite who is married to a Sunni Muslim and their children are therefore not considered Alawites according to Alawite religious law since being Alawite requires having dual Alawite parentage. Bashar al-Assad often appears in regime propaganda on official state television praying in Sunni mosques along with prominent regime-aligned Sunni clerics. His late father and predecessor as dictator, the secular Hafez al-Assad (1930-2000) remarkably often made a point of publically fasting on Ramadan despide this certainly not being an Alawite custom as Alawites are Median Jews and certainly not Muslims.
The ruling clique despite being Median Jews are turncoats from the Median Jewish community who exploit their minority ties with fellow Median Jews (Alawites, Alevis, Druze and Yezidis), Shias (Ismailis and Twelvers) and Christians to stay in power against the wishes of the peoples of Syria as a whole. The ruling ethnically Alawite elite has minimal popular support among the Alawite people in Syria and a relatively low number of Alawites are actually involved in running Syria. Despite this has a disproportionately high number of young conscripted Alawite men fallen in Syria’s civil war with Jihadism.
It is important to emphasize that Syria is run by a totalitarian regime and that its Median Jewish citizens deserve to be liberated from totalitarian oppression no less than their fellow non-Jewish citizens. Syria’s millions of Median Jews are not responsible for the crimes of the ruling clique who happen to be of Median Jewish ancestry, yet spread Anti-Semitic propaganda and insist on collaborating with existential enemies of the Jewish nation. President Bashar al-Assad and other top leaders of the regime are perfectly aware of being Median Jews yet insist on being aligned with the genocidally Anti-Semitic and Holocaust-denying Tehran against the independent, free Jewish nation.
The last Ba’athist regime has in fact no real power base and rules through fear and the iron fist alone. Syria’s Median Jews have learned by word of mouth in the past half decade of them being secret Jews and have as a result developed Jewish communal identity, including identification with Israel. The future of Syria’s Median Jews and their regions lies exclusively with Israel.
