Sharing the Burden

It is unreasonable that US allies should not be able to collectively defend themselves.

European Union member countries each need to create an Office for the Protection of the Constitution on the German model as well as institute a joint confederal military. The extreme reliance on US troops to defend the EU is intolerable. Why should not Europe be able to defend itself on its own?

A new defense alliance against Iran consisting of moderate Arab countries, Israel and predominantly Muslim republics of the former Soviet Union should be formed to roll back, implode and dissolve the Khomeinist empire and institute a no-fly zone over Iran to provide vital air support to regional rebellions.

Nations in Asia and Oceania that feel threatened by China should form a purely defensive alliance that would not pose any offensive threat whatsoever to the People’s Republic of China.

These three alliances while backed up by the United States should each be so well funded so as to be able to effectively defend its member countries. The US should hold up the model of Israeli military self-sufficiency to its other allies around the world. It is intolerable that US allies due to too little military spending and insufficient military integration with each other are not capable of collectively defending their regions. It is furthermore dangerous and this state of things could lead to otherwise avoidable wars.

It is about time that Washington expects more from its allies around the world.
