Öcalan is a Traitor to the Kurdish Cause

Abdullah Öcalan has an extensive past as a Marxist-Leninist extremist and antizionist, something which placed Israel and the Turkish Kurds in opposite camps during the Cold War and later. Furthermore, Öcalan is the subject of a totalitarian cult of personality that was particularly prominent during the era of AANES in northern and eastern Syria. Throughout the years on the Turkish prison island of Imrali Öcalan gradually moderated his views on socialism and his movement abandoned antizionism as AANES developed close ties with Israel. Then Öcalan decided to capitulate, for no reason at all he abandoned the armed struggle in Bakur (North Kurdistan in Turkey) and instructed AANES to capitulate in Rojava (West Kurdistan in Syria) as well. The result is that hundreds of thousands of Kurds have died for nothing and the Kurds received zero rights in Turkey and Syria. Öcalan has become a tool for the Islamist rulers of Turkey and Syria and is literally a traitor to the Kurdish cause. Now Öcalan has even espoused antizionist conspiracy theories blaming ”the Zionists” for the plight of the Kurdish nation when in fact Israel is the only state in the Middle East that is sympathetic to the plight of the Kurds. It is clear that the Kurds in Syria and Turkey will have no good news until they have distanced themselves from this despicable personality. If he was ever released from prison it would be the end of the Kurdish national movement.
