The number of Median Jews (Yarsanis, Alevis, Yezidis and Zoroastrians) in Iran is estimated at between two and three million; there are no precise statistics available. In addition, are there 8 500 rabbinic Jews and 5 000-10 000 Mandaeans who are pre-Israelite Sumerian Jews. The only way to free most Median Jews of Iran is to impose a no-fly zone over Iran that will lead the ethnic periphery to rebel with US air support against the ethnically Persian center which is the core of the Khomeinist regime. In the best case scenario will the ethnic Persians rise against the regime as well but this is far less certain.
The fact is that more Jews are captive in Iran than were captive in the former Soviet Union. The vast majority of Median Jews in Iran are Yarsanis and are concentrated in Iranian Kurdistan and the Iranian Kurds will be among the first to rebel – if not the very first – once the US imposes a no-fly zone over Iran and offers air support to those who wage armed rebellion against the regime. To impose a US no-fly zone over Iran is not only a key US national security interest in terms of containment and anti-proliferation, but also an urgent humanitarian mission to free the Median Jews of Iran which will crucially allow them to emigrate to Israel once Israel opens the gates for Median Jewish Aliyah (immigration) to Israel.
The ten deported tribes of Israel are part of America’s Judeo-Christian heritage and America has an opportunity to play a redemptive role in history in taking an active part in the ingathering of those descendants of deported Israelites. A no-fly zone is a tremendous opportunity for America to liberate millions of Median Jews from a horrible reality where they are completely prohibited from practicing Median Judaism. Just like America stood with Soviet Jewry, so should America stand with Median Jewry in Iran and thus bring freedom to nearly all Median Jews in Iran by imposing a no-fly zone over Iran.
