Diplomacy is exoteric/esoteric. Exoterically diplomacy is typically moralizing and speaking in terms of ”universal values”, i.e. notions derived from Christianity and through Christian imperialism. On the esoteric level it is all about national interests which are more value-neutral and non-moralizing. While it can be argued that certain values such as liberal democracy, secularism and even human rights are national interests in their own rights this is more complex territory. Liberal democracies have a) common interests in defending their form of government, b) prevent liberal democracy from degenerating and c) helping other nations whose peoples desire liberal democracy such as Belarus and Russia. Liberal democracy is civilized, dictatorship is barbarian. This is the foundation of the European Union. However, extending this to a so-called rule-based world order which never existed is neither reasonable nor logical. The discourse which is falsely described as ”international law” is morally corrupt in being founded on despicable Anti-Jewish prejudice (antizionism and more subtle structural oppression in the form of systemic anti-Israel bias) and is determined by the dictatorships at the UN. The EU treats this as a new religion which is actually now contrary to the interests of the European Union. Democracies and dictatorships are not equals, democracies should dominate the world and for this purpose is it important that the European Union is aligned with the United States and other liberal democracies around the world. Therefore it is in the interest of the EU to adopt democratic realism as opposed to dangerous idealist Christian imperialism as of now, as its Weltanschauung.
USA President Donald J. Trump is not particularly interested in democratic realism, he understands that there is only room for one superpower. It’s either the USA; the Russian Federation or the People’s Republic of China. However, Europe needs democratic realism and not only because internal European solidarity cannot be solely based on either Christian imperialism or Realpolitik. This is why Europe requires democratic realism.
The notion that democracies don’t fight wars against each other is about to collapse. The US is intent on conquering Greenland and Canada unless they voluntarily accede to the United States of America. This is Realpolitik. Russia intends to first conquer Europe and then the US, Canada and Greenland. The United States entirely reasonably believes that the EU with its 450 million citizens should be capable of defending themselves. After Europe, Russia will turn its sights on conquering North America in order to economically control the entire Western world. Why does Russia need Europe and North America? Because China once it becomes sufficiently militarily powerful intends to conquer all thinly populated territories around the world (including Russia) and settle them with Han Chinese. The US needs to become more powerful and this includes controlling the Arctic and the US incorporating Greenland and Canada. Greenlandic and Canadian accession to the United States will either happen through war or consent. The latter is preferable and Nuuk and Ottawa would be particularly well-advised to negotiate orderly processes of accession or else.
There is another aspect of the Greenlandic drama. The US has no intention whatsoever of defending the EU and seeks a way out of NATO. A war in Greenland would effectively dissolve NATO and that is precisely the outcome that President Trump deliberately seeks. There is no sense for the US to remain in NATO, Europe should be able to defend itself and World War III in Europe is not America’s war. It is true that America faces its own threat from Russia, but these are separate wars and both need to be avoided as needs Chinese world conquest.
The EU faces a world where all three superpowers are convinced that there is only room for one superpower and democratic realism is precisely the response that is both measured and balanced. The discourse of the ’UN dictatorships are always right’ does not well serve European interests. Realpolitik is the name of the game. Democratic realism is however the Weltanschauung which best encapsulates European interests and Europe therefore needs to abandon morally corrupt ”idealism” of the dictatorships.
