The Liberation of Syria and Lebanon Should not be Deferred

The upcoming Israeli destruction of the Iranian nuclear Iranian nuclear weapons program is a golden opportunity to also fundamentally transform the northern Levant and remove Iran from the regional equation.

While it is necessary to destroy Hezbollah could it also be argued that Hezbollah’s destruction and the remaking of the northern Levant could be deferred for later. This however would be a severe strategic mistake. It would be a miscalculation to delay destroying Hezbollah until its missile arsenal has grown more powerful and would cause infinitely more harm to the city of Tel Aviv, Israel’s economic capital. While it also could be argued that the SDF (Syrian Democratic Forces) grows stronger with time and that therefore there is benefit in deferring a joint IDF-SDF operation in the northern Levant, it is also true that the SDF may already have reached its maximum personnel strength after having imposed the draft on its conscription age population.

Israel is committed to establishing an Aramean Christian state as the successor state to Lebanon. Annexing Median Jewish (Alawite and Druze) regions of Syria and Lebanon to Israel is a fundamental Israeli national interest. This is one of those rare moments as in 1948 and 1967 when truly astute strategic leadership is called for. The western wing of the Khomeinist empire must be dismantled. Hezbollah must be destroyed. The sooner the better.
