Hezbollah is part of the command and control structure of the IRGC and ultimately receives its strategic instructions from the Supreme leader himself, Ali Khamenei (b. 1939). A Hezbollah massive missile barrage against Tel Aviv following upon Israel’s preemptive air strikes against the Iranian nuclear weapons program will lead to a joint IDF-SDF war against the Ba’athist-Khomeinist front in the northern Levant and this will cause Iran to lose its indirect control over the northern Levant.
Will Iran nevertheless order its Hezbollah proxy to strike Israel following upon Israel’s preemptive air strikes against the Iranian nuclear weapons program? There is no doubt that Iran will not stand down. While it would seem entirely rational for Tehran to order Hezbollah to stand down and not to attack Israel is this however wholly unlikely to happen. The so-called “Axis of Resistance” is ready to fight until death. They will neither capitulate nor negotiate with Israel. This is the insane spirit of the Supreme Leader. Hezbollah has been training since 2006 to fight a guerilla war in Lebanon and is now more ready than ever although Hezbollah surely did not anticipate that it would have to face the highly motivated anti-Jihadist SDF reaching the Mediterranean Sea.
