Joint Exercises are a Good Start

The Pentagon has leaked that US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin and Israeli Defense Minister Benny Gantz will discuss joint military exercises for destroying the Iranian nuclear weapons program. This is an excellent way to begin to restore US military deterrence vis-a-vis Iran. This also signals that the US is partnering with Israel not just as another ally but as a regional great power that is recognized as such by the nations of the region. This can be compared with the 1990 Gulf War and the 2003 Iraq War, both in which Israel was not welcome to participate due to objections by Arab allies. America is also very effectively rebuilding its relations with Jerusalem and overcoming immense Israeli distrust over American intentions on Iran. The idea of a joint Israeli-American operation to destroy the Iranian nuclear weapons program is an excellent idea which reinforces and significantly strengthens the military deterrence and political credibility of both nations. President Joe Biden is showing most commendable leadership indeed.
