The Pentagon has leaked that US officials and visiting Israeli Defense Minister Benny Gantz will discuss different military options on Iran and joint US-Israeli military exercises in preparation for destroying the Iranian nuclear weapons program. This is aptly described as the worst-case scenario for Iran.
It is certainly welcome that the US government has returned to reality. Of course declaring the JCPOA dead still remains and that may still take some time although Rob Malley seems as hopeful as ever about reviving the JCPOA.
Does this mean that the US will join the emerging international coalition to impose a no-fly zone over Iran once the JCPOA is declared dead? It almost certainly does and this is good news. The US government has decided to take upon itself to destroy the Iranian nuclear weapons program in cooperation with Israel. Of course this is also a last warning to Iran that this is their last chance to rejoin the JCPOA before it is declared dead. However, the US government with the possible exception of Rob Malley now understands that Iran has deliberately chosen not to resuscitate the JCPOA.
Iran has chosen its course and the US has drawn the logical conclusions.
