There is a failure in the current class of Iran experts in ascertaining Iran’s strategic intentions. There is generally a failure in academia of experts on Islamism who do not grasp that we are dealing with a dangerous neo-imperialist, totalitarian, modern political ideology, but rather seem to think that Islamism is “a traditional religion”, “a democratizing movement” and “an anti-imperialist movement”; in fact the complete reverse of what Islamism actually is. The problem is the paradigm which paints a false, misleading and indeed flattering picture of Islamists.
With the JCPOA is the problem the idea that the Khomeinist regime is somehow interested in reconciliation with the US which it refers to as “the Great Satan”. It does not matter that Tehran repeatedly states that it has no interest whatsoever in reconciliation with Washington, the experts demur.
It is true that Iran signed the JCPOA with the P5+1 in 2015 but Tehran has no interest in a renewal of the JCPOA for the simple reason that it knows that any agreement will be abrogated by the next Republican president in the US. Tehran considers the JCPOA to be a mistake, and one it certainly does not intend to repeat.
Why then is Tehran intent on pursuing its nuclear weapons program when the regime knows perfectly well that it will be destroyed by the IAF (Israeli Air Force)? They are intent on trying again and rebuilding. They fundamentally believe that Allah is on their side and believe in the “justness” of the apocalyptic concept of using nuclear weapons to annihilate Israel to make the Hidden Imam (Mahdi) and Isa ibn Maryam (Jesus) appear.
Towards this end are they willing to try and fail until they succeed in producing nuclear weapons. The Khomeinist regime is patient but they have no interest in reconciliation neither with the Small Satan (Israel) nor with the Great Satan (America).
