Iranian officials state over and over again that Israel will be destroyed if Israel destroys the Iranian nuclear weapons program. They literally mean what they say. What this means is that the entire Iranian axis (primarily Hezbollah) will engage in a frontal assault against Israel with projectiles, including ones with chemical warheads. (Iranian use of biological weapons against Israel is out of question since it would annihilate the Palestinians as well.) The consequences will be devastating for Israeli civilians.
Israel faced annihilation in 1947 and 1967 unless it turned out victorious yet those wars offered tremendous opportunities as well as stark choices. Israeli leaders knew that they would lose many soldiers but they would also liberate territory and would ultimately prevail.
This is that kind of war. Not only will thousands of Israeli civilians die from Hezbollah’s and the rest of the Iranian Axis’ assault on Israel but hundreds of Israeli soldiers will likely also die in the northern theater. This is not only a war of no choice but it is certainly worth the price defensively liberating the Median Jewish (Alawite and Druze) regions of Syria and Lebanon and bringing them under Israeli sovereignty through international agreements with new governments in Beirut and Damascus. A democratic indigenous Aramean Christian state would be established in parts of Lebanon with East Beirut as its capital. Most of present Syria and the remainder of Lebanon would fall under PYD (Democratic Union Party) rule as part of the new feminist Syria with new international boundaries with Aram and Israel, and Golan officially being part of Israel.
Let’s face reality, Lebanon is a failed state controlled by the world’s largest terrorist organization and only North Korea is more totalitarian and brutal than Ba’athist Syria. Yes, thousands of Syrians and Lebanese will die in the war but the alternative is never-ending conflict and yet further wars. It is certainly preferable to end the conflict in one fell swoop. It is true that a low-intensity guerilla warfare will most likely ensue between the SDF (Syrian Democratic Forces) and Hezbollah just as it continues between the SDF and ISIL, but totalitarianism is pure evil and must end and the Ba’athist regime will pay the price for hosting large Hezbollah forces throughout its territory. This will be a war of no choice, meaning in terms of both being imposed and there being no other conceivable option than complete victory. Crucially will Israel enjoy perpetual peace at its northern boundaries.
